Poly Theater NarrowEnlarge
Background
The Poly Theater is affiliated to the Chinese Poly Group, which was reorganized with Poly tech ltd. company under the direction of state counsel in February 1993. Poly Theater is located in the center of Beijing City. It is a landmark of the cultural life in the city. Since 1991, date of its foundation, it had welcomed more than 2000 performances from more than 200 troupes worldwide.
In order to promote its development and promote cross-culture communication, the group started a comprehensive restoration of the building and reopened by October 2000. For this occasion, the Poly group decided to introduce a new CI system. After evaluation, they requested Bang to do introduce a new logo and a complete CI system.
The Poly Theater was already positioned has the best performance stage in the country attracting most of the major international venues. Creating a new logo reflecting & matching this reputation was a great challenge for us.
Solution
Bang designers took full consideration of the identity legacy, popular perception and display limitation due to stage performance visibility requirement. The logo is derived from the shape of the initial letter ”P” of “Poly Theater”. It seems to represent the wide open eye lid of a spectator.
The two colors, sky-blue and stage light-yellow gives a hint of spirituality through art and the human body as a medium. Blue is also for Chinese people the symbol of reason and his closely associated to western, modern civilization, while yellow represent a more emotional, oriential, culture. The harmonious integration and sharp contrast shows Poly Theater role has a platform for the converging dialogue of two highly different cultures. The visual effect is compelling, simple, lively and universal.
